A recent search of the Internet found a couple of items of interest held in the Lincolnshire Film Archive. The Lincolnshire Film Archive (Registered Charity No. 1000394) was set up in 1986 to locate and preserve motion film showing life and work in all parts of the County (including what was South Humberside). The two items of specific interest to Partney are: 352 SPILSBY & DISTRICT EVENTS (EARLY WARTIME) Spilsby & District 1939-40 26 min B/W Silent 16mm The Territorials prepare to leave on active service, air-raid shelters appear in people’s gardens, a major Civil Defence exercise is held, and the WVS collect aluminium for Spitfires. Sandbags and uniforms are everywhere, but daily life continues as best it can: a Confirmation Service takes place, the local Hunt meets at Partney and there is always work to be done on the farm. At the Grace Swan Memorial Hospital, patients are X-rayed and prepared for theatre, and at the Grammar School the Home Guard muster for a Church Parade. As with No 351, there are also numerous shorter scenes of life in the town and surrounding countryside, which together provide a fascinating picture of a small community making the transition from peace to war. 466 FARMING AT PARTNEY Partney (Nr Spilsby) c 1959 13.75 min Colour Silent Std 8mm Harvesting, lambing, sheep shearing, and picking and packing the apple crop are the main features Unfortunately, for copyright and other legal reasons, the Archive cannot supply copies of individual items in the Archive to members of the public. However, most items in the main Listings may be viewed by anyone at their premises on request. Viewing is by appointment only, and for not more than two people at a time. For larger groups, clubs, societies, etc, a film show can be presented at their own venue. Full details on the archive are available at www.lincsfilm.co.uk |
