Proposed Electricity Substation Proposals have been made for a huge electrical substation to be built in the area to convert the energy generated by offshore wind farms into a suitable voltage to connect to the National Grid. The substation will occupy a 40 acre site. Four local sites have been identified at Great Steeping, Monksthorpe, Willoughby and Boothby Grange near Gunby. The substation will incorporate structures up to 43 feet in height and landscaping of the site could affect a far larger area than the 40 acres for the substation itself. It is also understood that power will be carried into and from the station via 30-40 metre pylons. npower are inviting residents to comment on their proposals by completing a questionnaire which can be found at www.npower-renewables.com/tritonknoll .The closing date for returning the questionnaires is 6 September 2010. When considering this proposal you may wish to bear in mind that the power supply to Partney was carried to the village on overhead pylons until April this year. A project has commenced to lay the cables underground, in part to reduce maintenance costs but mainly to reduce the effect of the overhead cables on an area of outstanding natural beauty.
